Avebury

Where do I start on this page? I have no idea as Avebury has so many paths to travel. Perhaps I should just tell my story of my visits there. I had been feeling the pull to travel to Avebury for many months. I had actually tried to drive there when Chuck was here but for some reason I couldn't find the way. I had previously been only to Silbury Hill with Jan a couple of years ago on the way to a visit to Glastonbury, but we didn't stay long and didn't see any of the stones. I knew I had to go and visit. After Chuck went back to America I made arrangements to meet Jan and Jay at Silbury Hill and go be a tourist. It was the first long trip I had done in my new (second-hand) car and so I was obviously nervous to drive there on my own, but knew I had to do it. This time I found the way easily.

When I arrived in the Avebury area a lightness came over me, and when I passed the 'Avebury' sign I felt a great relief and a feeling washed over me that said 'you are home'. I arived at Silbury and waited for Jan and Jay.

We first went to the West Kennet longbarrow, and stopped for a while at the Swallowhead spring where the water has, since time began, let the people know that spring has arrived each year by flowing again. It was a lovely spring day and the hawthorn and lilac trees were all in full bloom, the air was sweetly perfumed and the sun shone gently on us as we made our way up the incline where the Barrow is located. Once there I knew we were in a special place the energies of the land were ancient and the feeling that the old ones had walked here through the millennia was powerful.

We drove to the village next and as soon as I saw the megaliths I wanted to cry, it was as if I had been here many times before because it all seemed so familiar, but this was my first glimpse in this lifetime. We walked around the village, Jan and I, while Jay went off to run an errand and as I walked by the stones I felt a presence of the past, I knew I was walking with my ancestors by my side, and they were smiling. The decendant that they had been willing to visit them had arrived and they were happy to see me. I could not believe the power that emanated from that area, I didn't have my dowsing rods with me but I really didn't need them as my spirit told me that the energies here were special in their power.

The first stones I met up close were these two (numbers 30 and 31)
One of my favourite stones. This is number 206 and it has some interesting faces that show up on it at different times of the day.
This pair of stones called to me to take their photo. They are on the Kennet Avenue.

I was being brave here I sat in the Devil's Chair. I was cheating though as it wasn't raining!

Another interesting lozenge stone along the Avenue
This looks like Grafiti but the markings are natural. Again on the Avenue.
